5 Apps You Might Not Realize Work With Android Auto

The days of gloveboxes filled with mixtapes and CDs for in-car entertainment are long gone. Modern cars now come equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the in-car infotainment systems from Google and Apple. Despite owning both a Galaxy S25 Ultra and an iPhone 17, I'm a fan of Android Auto for its user interface and the vast array of apps available on the Play Store, compared to the limited selection on the App Store. According to recent data, around 83% of 18+ U.S. residents in June 2025 used either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
While popular apps like Google Maps, Spotify, and WhatsApp are widely known, Android Auto offers lesser-known gems beyond basic navigation and music streaming. These apps enhance your driving experience, from tracking mileage and costs to finding parking spots and entertainment during long drives. Here's a list of five apps that might surprise you by working seamlessly with Android Auto.
Pocket FM

For decades, music was the primary in-car entertainment. Now, apps like Pocket FM offer a wide range of audio content. This Indian audio series platform provides binge-worthy stories across various genres, making it a hit in the U.S. since its launch in 2022. Simply install the app on your Android device, and it will appear on your Android Auto interface. With over 100,000 hours of content, including 75,000 audio series, and a 4.4-star rating from 4.3 million reviews, Pocket FM is a must-have for audio enthusiasts.
Fuelio

Fuel expenses are a significant part of car ownership, especially for those who love long drives. Fuelio, a fuel expense tracking app with a 4.6-star rating, has become a permanent fixture on my phone. It tracks fuel consumption, mileage, and costs, providing a clear overview of your car's expenses. The app is user-friendly, allowing you to log fuel data, location, and gas costs. It also offers insights into the best fuel prices near you and reminds you of upcoming car services.
VLC

VLC, a beloved video player on PCs, also works with Android Auto. Install the app from the Play Store, and it will appear on your Android Auto interface. Note that VLC plays audio from video files but not the video itself. This is useful for audio playlists or concert performances, ensuring a distraction-free driving experience.
Angry Birds 2
Angry Birds 2 is a casual game that can be played with one hand, making it perfect for waiting in your parked car. With a 4.2-star rating, it's an excellent Android Auto app. The game automatically closes when your car moves, ensuring a safe and enjoyable gaming experience.
EasyPark

Finding parking spots can be a hassle, but apps like EasyPark simplify the process. Available in over 20 countries, it's the top app in Europe. Search for parking spots, book them, and pay directly from the app. EasyPark offers features like extending parking sessions, splitting bills with passengers, and supporting various payment methods. For EV owners, it also locates electric charging stations in participating cities.

The selection criteria for these apps included being free to download and use, with optional in-app purchases. I personally tested each app for an extended period to ensure their effectiveness and value in daily driving. The apps cover various categories, including fuel saving, parking, podcasts, media and entertainment, and games, all with high ratings on the Google Play Store.
