Martin O'Neill, the interim manager of Celtic, is uncertain about his future with the club. In an interview with talkSPORT, O'Neill expressed his doubts about continuing his role beyond the end of the season, stating, 'I can't see that for a start, and I genuinely can't. I don't know whether I would have the energy and all that type of stuff.'
O'Neill's appointment came after the departure of Wilfried Nancy, who was replaced 33 days prior. During his interim spell, O'Neill led Celtic to seven wins out of eight matches, but the club's performance has taken a turn since his arrival. Celtic has lost six out of eight matches under Nancy's successor, and they now face a challenging path to reclaim the title.
Despite the recent setbacks, O'Neill remains focused on the task at hand. He stated, 'I will just put everything into it now for these next couple of months, and the same applies to me -- if I don't win football matches, I'll be straight under pressure.' Celtic is currently level on points with the William Hill Premiership leaders, Hearts, but they have a game in hand. However, they are six points behind Hearts and three points behind Rangers, who are in third place.
When asked about Celtic's title hopes, O'Neill acknowledged the difficult situation, saying, 'It will be very, very difficult. We are behind, and Rangers have caught up as well. It will be a challenge for us.' Additionally, Celtic has ended the loan spell of Manchester City's Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, who will now spend the rest of the season with Cologne.
The uncertainty surrounding O'Neill's future adds an intriguing layer to Celtic's ongoing season, leaving fans and analysts alike wondering about the club's next steps.
