A Massive Winter Storm Brings Chilling Temperatures and Snowfall to the US

The NWS advises to expect prolonged snow and ice impacts, including hazardous travel, power outages, tree damage, snow-covered roads, and reduced visibility.
Governors in states like Texas, North Carolina, and South Carolina have declared states of emergency, allowing emergency officials and National Guard troops to mobilize response efforts. The warnings come as a stark reminder of the 2021 Texas winter storm, which caused widespread power outages and energy grid failures.
Officials caution that cold temperatures could again cause pipes to freeze and burst, and roadways could be blocked for days, especially in southern states with limited de-icing equipment. The cold is expected to persist into next week, bringing a prolonged period of harsh winter weather.
